From June to December 2026, 30 students and graduates from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Germany will take part in an international youth exchange in online and offline formats. The project creates a space for academic and intercultural interaction, joint research work, and dialogue with representatives of civil society. As part of the project, participants will prepare articles on the project\u2019s theme, which will be published in the form of a brochure and website, which will be presented at the final online event of the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Project Content and Structure<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project is aimed at strengthening mutual understanding among young people from Germany, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan. Despite the growing interest in international exchange, opportunities for personal and academic contacts between the three countries remain limited<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project programme includes lectures, seminars, discussions with experts, cultural visits, and collaborative work in international groups. Participants will explore the topic \u201cThe Role of Women in German, Kazakh and Uzbek Societies in the Past and Present\u201d and present their findings in the form of articles in English.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project covers women\u2019s rights, gender equality, and the contribution of outstanding women to the history, culture, and politics of the three countries. Special attention is be paid to the role of women in Islam, Soviet modernization processes in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, and differences in the image of women in German history, including the experience of West and East Germany or the experineces of women under the Nazi-regime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first meeting takes place in Berlin in early August and focuses on historical contexts and women\u2019s rights movements in Germany and Europe. The second meeting is held in Samarkand at the end of August and will focus on Central Asian historical and contemporary perspectives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throughout the project, international teams will jointly prepare articles in English. The final brochure and website will be presented at the concluding online event and published open access. The project will also be accompanied by outreach activities on the social media channels of the partner organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Organizer and Project Partners<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project is organized by the Berlin based association KONTAKTE-KOHTAKTbI e.V.<\/strong>, which works in the field of intercultural dialogue, historical education, and support for solidarity initiatives with victims of National Socialism in Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and the Caucasus. Since 2004, the organisation has implemented humanitarian and historical projects and maintained long-term contacts with partner structures in this region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project partners are the Samarkand-State-Institute of Foreign Languages<\/strong> <\/a>in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, and the Department of Philosophy and Social Sciences at<\/strong> Toraighyrov University<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project is funded by the German Federal Foreign Office<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Funding and Participation Criteria<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The organizers cover the main project expenses, including accommodation, meals, the excursion programme, workshops, visits to museums and memorials, as well as airfare on the Samarkand\u2013Berlin route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students and graduates from universities and institutes in Kazakhstan (Pavlodar), Uzbekistan (Samarkand), and Germany are invited to participate, with 10 participants from each country. Applicants must be current students or have graduated no more than five years ago in history, journalism, political science, sociology, geography, foreign languages, German studies, European studies, anthropology, ethnology, and related disciplines. Applicants must be under 30 years old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants should have an interest in gender equality, be ready to work in an international team, take part in all stages of the project, and have conversational English proficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Citizens of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan require a visa to enter Germany, which will be arranged after acceptance into the project. Holders of German and other EU passports do not require a visa to enter Uzbekistan. The participant\u2019s passport must be valid until at least 01\/03\/2027<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The personal contribution is 50 euros<\/strong> for participants from Germany. If you are unable to contribute this amount, please write to us, and we will find a suitable solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To apply, please send a short CV indicating your passport expiry date and a brief letter of motivation of up to one page in English.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
